Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could assist the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
