Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
